DEARBORN (WKZO-AM/FM) — AAA says the average price for a gallon of gas in Michigan is down six cents to $2.42.
Susan Hiltz, a spokesperson with the auto club, said the decline caught her off guard.
“I think it’s a little bit of a correction,” Hiltz said. “We had an eight-cent increase last week, so I think it’s kind of levelling off.”
Hiltz said supply concerns could push prices higher as we approach Labor Day, but not significantly. She said prices should essentially mirror prices seen at the same time last year.
“Regionally, we’re seeing a low inventory for gas right now,” Hiltz said. “And we’ve got international things going on (regarding) what the OPEC and non-OPEC nations decide to do in terms of inventory and production,” Hiltz said.
GasBuddy.com said the Monday average was $2.32 in Kalamazoo, $2.42 in Grand Rapids and $2.35 in Lansing.
