KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Western Michigan University’s new president met with the local media on his first day on the job Tuesday.
Dr. Edward Montgomery said he became interested in the job partly because his son is a recent graduate of the Haworth College of Business at Western. Montgomery said he isn’t planning on any big changes short term.
He said, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. His long-range goal is to improve the school even more.
An economics professor by trade, Montgomery said one of his primary goals will be boosting the bottom line by trying to grow enrollment.
Montgomery said he has been doing some long-distance learning about Western since his appointment four months ago. He said, now that he’s in Kalamazoo, he expects that learning curve to accelerate.
