LANSING – Over 120 school districts in Michigan will open before Labor Day this year. The State Department of Education reports that it has issued waivers to those districts to begin classes early. A 2005 Michigan law prohibits schools from opening before Labor Day in order to promote the tourism industry in the state, but state lawmakers continue to consider a measure that would roll that law back.
