CENTREVILLE (WKZO AM/FM) — Suspected double-murderer Zachary Patten swapped a cell in the St. Joseph County Jail in South Bend, Ind., for a cell in the St. Joseph County Jail in Centreville over the weekend. He apparently opted not to wait for a tentatively-scheduled hearing on Tuesday and waived extradition Saturday.
Patten is suspected in the shooting death of a 31-year-old woman in Kalamazoo and the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Shane Richardson near Constantine later Thursday night.
The 32-year-old suspect apparently was booked in Centreville because charges have not yet been issued in Kalamazoo.
St. Joseph County’s prosecutor had already issued warrants charging Patten with felony murder, open murder, first degree home invasion and gun felonies.
Prosecutors in Kalamazoo plans to issue charges this coming week.
Patten is expected to be formally charged and a determination on bond made during a hearing in Centreville this coming week. It could be as soon as Monday.
