KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan Legislature took a break from Summer Vacation to pass the Governor’s Good Jobs package which will give developers with lots of jobs, a big break on their income tax.
Sponsor Ben Frederick says it’s what they need to compete with other states, some that are willing to go much further than this bill to attract companies.
Kalamazoo Democrat Jon Hoadley voted against it saying they should be investing the money they give away in tax breaks to fix the roads, educate the population and make it the kind of state that Companies want to locate in for all the right reasons.
Republican’s John Bizon of Battle Creek and Aaron Miller of Sturgis also voted ‘no’.
The Senate quickly adopted the changes in their bill made by the house, sent it to the Governor’s desk and the summer recess resumed.
It passed even though almost every member of the Republican House Leadership voted against it. Usually bills with that kind of opposition never make it to committee.
