UNDATED (WKZO-AM/FM) — The son of Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott has now been charged with ten counts for allegedly providing the gun used a drug related murder in February.
Nikolas Abbott, 23, is free on bond. The attorney general is handling the prosecution, charging Abbott with being an accessory to murder, filing a false police report, claiming the gun was stolen when it had actually been sold to someone in Benton Harbor, and a number of gun charges.
The claim is that he let Thurman Fletcher borrow the gun for a drug deal that went terribly wrong, resulting in the shooting death of Eddie Holland in a Bangor park last February.
Fletcher was shot in the foot during what he claims was a struggle for the gun, a wound that he would tell doctors at the hospital was the result of squirrel hunting.
Fletcher faces trial for the shooting death this fall.
Abbott also faces charges for allegedly causing a head-on collision last November that injured a woman. He allegedly had THC and Xanax in his system at the time.
