KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — A four-year-old from Kalamazoo is dead and the child’s mother and her live-in boyfriend are in jail pending formal charges.
Kalamazoo Public Safety responded after 5 p.m. Sunday to a 911 call from a home in the 3900 block of Mt. Olivet Road to help a child who wasn’t breathing.
The first officers on the scene began CPR. They kept it going for 50 minutes but were not able to revive the child. Lt. Anthony Morgan said officers noticed that the toddler had suffered physical trauma before they arrived and detectives took over the investigation.
Two other children were handed over to child protective services.
The 34-year-old boyfriend and the 33-year-old woman were arrested and booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail pending arraignment. The charges against them were not released.
