CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A Decatur man with a long history of drunk driving arrests is facing numerous charges following an alcohol related high speed chase in Calhoun County early Tuesday morning.
Calhoun County Deputies say they found the 46-year-old asleep at the wheel of his running car along V Drive North in Lee Township at about 1:40 a.m. When they tapped on his window, he woke up and took off.
The driver’s car crashed through a fence where V Avenue ends at I-69 and headed south in the northbound lanes, getting up to 120 mph on the interstate during the chase.
The pursuit lasted for over 20 miles before deputies, the Michigan State Police, Marshall Police, and Tribal Police managed to box him in.
The suspect did not go quietly as he struggled with officers. A deputy was injured during the struggle and had to be taken to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
A stun gun had to be used twice before the man was cuffed.
