BARRY COUNTY (WKZO-AM/FM) — A Hastings woman is dead and the man she was with may be facing charges after a crash in Barry County.
Sheriff Dar Leaf says the 23-year-old driver was northbound on M-43 when he lost control on a curve and landed in a pond. It happened north of Delton near Cloverdale in Hope Township at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
The driver, also from Hastings, managed to get out, but 29-year-old Camilia Ray was trapped inside the partially submerged vehicle.
Sheriff’s deputies say she was rushed to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The name of the driver was not released because investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and criminal charges could result.
