KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo woman who was charged following the drowning death of her 7-month-old daughter has cut a deal with prosecutors and may reduce her sentence if she can stay off drugs and improve her parenting skills.
25-year-old Jennifer Spicer was due to begin trial today. Instead she entered a guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter in exchange for having child abuse charges dropped.
Prosecutors say Spicer left her three pre-schoolers alone in a bathtub and when she returned five minutes later, the youngest had fallen out of a tub placed inside the bathtub and drowned.
Her sentencing has been delayed for 10 months. In the meantime she will be closely monitored by Child Protective Services and reports on her performance will be considered by the Judge when she is sentenced for what could be up to a 15-year felony.
