KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes will be one of the primary local beneficiaries of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual food drive, which is set for Saturday.
Tom Minshall, who is with the letter carriers’ union, said, if you didn’t get a paper bag in your mail box promoting the event, you likely will by the end of the week.
He also said participation is easy.
“All you have to do is put your food in a bag, place the bag by the mail box, and, when the letter carrier comes around to pick up your mail, they’ll pick up your food,” Minshall said.
Cherise Buchanan, who is with Loaves and Fishes, said food from this year’s drive with help stock 24 of its pantries.
“It definitely makes a great impact for us,” Buchanan said. “I know that, last year, we collected around 76,000 pounds of food.”
Letter carriers across the country will take part in the event. They claim it’s the largest one-day food drive in the country.
