KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Township board has appointed Trustee Don Martin to serve as Supervisor when Ron Reid steps down from the job at the end of the month.
Reid is retiring. State law dictates that Martin will serve until November of next year, when a vote will be held to fill the seat to fill out the rest of Reid’s four year term.
The Trustees generally agreed it would make for a smoother transition and Martin agreed.
He says he would be interested in running for the seat if it feels right next year.
Once the transition takes place the board will then have 45 days to fill the new opening for a trustee created when Martin becomes Supervisor. If they are unable to accomplish that task, a special election will be called by the County Clerk.
