BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — A former person of interest in the murder of Frank Zanetti of Battle Creek is now the prime suspect in the case.
Brian Zanetti, 47, is jailed in Lake County, Ill., pending extradition back to Michigan to be charged with first degree murder and felony gun charges.
Detectives are not saying why they believe the suspect walked into the victim’s tile business on Friday and shot him once in the head, or why they named him as a person of interest in the first place.
Zanetti was arrested by police in Libertyville, Ill., after a traffic stop. A gun was found in his car.
There are also reports that he made incriminating statements to detectives, who traveled from Battle Creek to Illinois to interview Zanetti. An extradition hearing has been scheduled for Thursday.
A funeral for victim Frank Zanetti is scheduled for Friday morning. He was 63.
