KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation has delayed the start of a major repaving project through Kalamazoo.
There’s still plenty being done on M-43 from U.S. 131 into downtown, but it’s not MDOT-contracted work. The city wrapping up utility work, department spokesperson Nick Schirripa said.
“It’s stuff they wanted to get done before the repaving,” Schirripa said. “We’re a couple weeks away from that repaving starting. We’ll be starting at U.S. 131 and making our way east into downtown,” Schirripa said.
Overall, four miles will be resurfaced. The project itself carries a $2.3 million price tag.
“We’re going to finish it up by the end of this construction season, so early November,” Schirripa said. “We’re going to be working in small segments, so you’re looking at single-lane closures in each direction. It’ll go from four lanes to two lanes, but it will only do it for a couple blocks at a time.”
Elsewhere, two M-66 repaves start Monday: One between East Leroy and Athens, the other through Sturgis.
