KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo’s Stryke Force robotics team has won a world championship.
The all-star team of high school and home-schooled students from Kalamazoo County won their division, then won the world championship event that was just held in St. Louis.
The four-day event came down to a conclusion Saturday night in front of tens of thousands who attended the finals as four teams from Kalamazoo, Canton, Ohio, San Jose, Calif., and Montvale, N.J., earned the First Robotics Competition Winning Alliance Award.
Fifteen-thousand students in 400 teams competed in the event, which will move to Detroit next year. The competition was created by Segway inventor Dean Kamen to get more children involved in engineering and related fields.
