KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Local law enforcement officials disagree with the National Transportation Safety Board’s statement that they might have prevented Cooper Township bicycle tragedy.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller, and Kalamazoo Public Safety Chiefs Jeff Hadley and Tim Bourgeois issued a joint statement claiming the NTSB finding is a “far reaching hypothetical conclusion.”
They say the federal agency had a number of factual errors in their initial draft and that they “are steadfast in our support of our dispatch personnel.” They said their staff handled the incident “professionally, by policy and in the manner in which they are trained.”
The statement said going any further into problems with the NTSB report might jeopardize the case against suspect Charles Pickett Jr. so they will wait until after the trial.
