KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — There was a lot of debate and discussion about Metro Transit Last year as the system went through a lot of changes, adding Sunday routes and extending daily service to midnight.
We have now gotten an update on the results as the Metro Authority has delivered their annual report to the County Board.
Behind the scenes, ownership and control shifted from the City of Kalamazoo to a County authority.
Authority Chair Linda Teeter says it’s been a big success story since.
She says ridership is up on all the routes and the numbers on their Sunday routes are exceeding their expectations. They project by the end of the year they will have provided over 100,000 rides on Sunday.
The system provides the regular line-haul buses in the most populated parts of the County and a door to door dail-a-ride service called Metro Connect countywide.
Ridership on the smaller buses went over 15,000 in a month for the first time ever in March.
