PRAIRIEVILLE TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A Barry County couple has been jailed and charged with extreme child abuse for allegedly battering the woman’s three year old daughter over an extended period of time.
Child Protective Services investigated after being tipped off by a neighbor. CPS officials say the little girl had been locked into a pitch black bedroom with a chain.
When they found her, she had two black eyes and bruises all over her body, and was taken straight from the home in Prairieville Township to the hospital.
Doctors say it appears the child had been subject to abuse over a long period of time, judging by older and healed injuries to her body.
Karol Blanchard was ordered held on $500,000 bond. John Munro III is being held on $1-million bond because this is not his first arrest.
Blanchard reportedly pointed the finger at Munro, saying he was most responsible for the girl’s injuries. She was charged for doing nothing to stop him.
First degree child abuse calls for a term in prison of any number of years up to life depending on the severity of the crime.
