CASS COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke has updated the condition of the victims of Sunday’s dog biting incident, saying they may pursue charges against the dog’s owner.
Apparently a pit bull mix owned by a neighbor got lose and attacked the two children, a 2-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy playing outside.
The girl’s grandmother, 44-year-old Jennifer Hansford came to their rescue and also suffered bite wounds.
The 6-year-old and Ms. Hansford were treated and released. The little girl was stabilized at South Bend Memorial and then taken to Riley’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for emergency surgery. ‘
She is listed in stable condition but may be hospitalized for some time.
The dog has been quarantined for ten days, will be tested for rabies and a decision will be made then whether or not to euthanize the dog.
