HASTINGS (WKZO AM/FM) — The Director of the Barry County Animal Control Shelter could find herself in a cage if convicted of misconduct in office, a five year common law felony.
Billie Jo Hartwell has been charged by the prosecutor’s office in Hastings with the unauthorized taking of dog food, and inappropriate conduct with a Barry County Jail inmate, who was assigned to work at the shelter.
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is on-going.
Hartwell is free on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
Her current employment status with the County is unknown.
