WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO AM/FM) –The twitter fight between the White House and West Michigan Congressman Justin Amash continued into the weekend.
It began with frustration over the defeat of the Republican Healthcare plan, when the President slammed the Freedom Caucus during the week in a tweet, saying they were standing in the way of the Republican agenda.
The President was more or less picking a fight with the conservative group of lawmakers. Amash responded with a tweet of his own, saying that “it didn’t take long for the swamp to drain Trump”, accusing the President of succumbing to the D.C. establishment.
He later told reporters that the President was acting like a fifth grade bully, saying that kind of behavior doesn’t work in Washington.
This weekend, Senior White House aide Dan Scavino called for someone to run against Amash in a primary and beat him, calling for his electoral defeat. Scavino, the President’s Director of Social Media used his personal account for the attack.
Not to be out-tweeted, Amash once again accused Trump of selling-out his supporters. “Trump admin & Establishment have merged into #Trumpstablishment,” adding, “Same old agenda: Attack conservatives, libertarians & independent thinkers.”
As for the call for someone to challenge him in the primary, Amash replied “Bring it on” and included a link to his campaign site.
Besides being a major departure from the usual decorum exhibited by elected and appointed officials in Washington, some critics are wondering if all the references to election issues by government employees may be violations of the Hatch Act.
The Republican establishment has already tried to take out Amash, running an opponent against him in the primary and losing badly. But if Amash’s base was also Donald Trump’s base, then he could be vulnerable.
