KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — There have been local protests critical of a variety of proposals put forward by the Trump Administration.
Monday three Local Leaders called a news conference to challenge the Trump approach to the environment.
Kalamazoo State House Rep. John Hoadley says proposed budget cuts will hurt Michigan in particular, and the entire region if if they cut the $300-million dollar annual Great Lakes Restoration Fund.
He thanked Senator Debbie Stabenow for campaigning for the fund and for opposing the nomination of Scott Pruitt to become the new EPA Director.
WMU Professor Paul Clements says the White House denial that climate change is taking place isn’t some theoretical future threat…its already causing droughts, coastal flooding, more powerful storms and “freaky” weather and unusually warm conditions in Michigan. ‘
He says if it’s not mitigated, it could cause third world starvation and instability, financial collapse in the U.S. and the end of life as we know it.
City Commissioner Shannon Sykes, who is with the Michigan League of Conservation Voters says it disproportionately affects minorities and children.
They are planning a march to demonstrate their opposition to the Trump agenda on the environment.
