KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The first African-American female to travel to space says adults should encourage the dreams and fantasies of their children, because some day they may realize those dreams.
She spoke to a large crowd at Miller Auditorium Thursday evening.
Mae Jemison, who is an engineer and a doctor and a former astronaut says it’s worked out for her, and one of her missions now is to encourage adults to nurture and encourage children by shaping the world they live in.
She says there is nothing wrong with letting them watch TV or play videogames, as long as it has the right content, and is engaging and positive.
That is better than dark and confined. She says it’s not that complicated, it just takes paying attention, and putting in the effort.
