LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan’s Superintendent of Schools wants to know if he has the authority to withhold funding from schools that have offensive mascots.
Brian Whiston has asked the Attorney General for an opinion.
The Paw Paw board recently voted narrowly to keep the “Redskins” name, but those votes might change if it meant a 5 to 10% cut in state funding.
Whiston says he is also working with Michigan’s Native American tribes to find out which names they find offensive.
