PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — A Group of 14-Portage High School Students will abandon the classroom today and move over to City Hall, and one of them will become Mayor for the Day, and actually co-chair the City Council Meeting this evening.
The students, seven from Portage Northern and seven from Portage Central will take a tour of City Operations and be briefed on what the city government actually does and some of the issues they are currently dealing with.
Sometime today, a mock election will be held and one mayor and six council members will be chosen from the 14 to participate in tonight’s regular meeting, unless it runs past their bedtimes.
This will be the tenth time the special educational opportunity will be held.
