KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Though the holiday isn’t until next Friday, Kalamazoo’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set for this Saturday.
It’s the 17th year of the event.
Margaret Strzelecki with the Irish American Club of Kalamazoo said the parade has grown since its start nearly a decade ago.
“We have almost 40 units this year walking,” Strzelecki said. “We try to be quite diverse, we have the Scottish club, and the Sons of Norway, and the Czech club.”
The parade will take its standard route through town. Strzelecki said it’s a short, but festive march.
“We start at Michigan and Burdick, then head south to Cedar, then west on Cedar to the Knights of Columbus,” Strzelecki said.
It starts at 11 a.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley will be the grand marshal.
The companion Hooley for Healing cancer benefit will be held at Bell’s Brewery on East Kalamazoo Avenue at noon.
