KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Gardening experts say homeowners shouldn’t wait to save trees felled by Wednesday’s wind storm.
Andy Wedel said calls to Wedel’s Nursery in Kalamazoo have been coming in by the dozens. The calls are fairly similar.
“What can I do?” Wedel said. “All of these trees have tipped over.”
Wedel said a plan must be devised quick.
“If they’re ripped out and kind of laying on their side, somebody’s going to have to tip that back up, dig it out and stake the tree as best they can,” Wedel said. “If it’s going to sit there for a month, it probably isn’t going to be beneficial for the tree.”
Other experts say the tree-healing process usually requires the removal of broken branches frequent watering. You may also need to call a professional, especially if the tree needs to be removed.
