KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — An aerial search of the Kalamazoo River Thursday by the Civil Air Patrol failed to find a missing SUV that has been the target of a search since Saturday.
The pilots used cameras and flew about 900 feet above the water, managing to scan about 20 miles of the river, but didn’t detect anything that resembled a vehicle.
Authorities have released the surveillance of a vehicle floating down the river in the dark. It’s easy to tell what the object is because the headlights were still on when it floated by.
They believe the van was the Hyundai Sonata rented by 31-year-old Lewis Cortez of Detroit because a review of his phone GPS put him in the area and because a bumper recovered from the river matches that make and model.
He also remains missing.
