BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — The search by boat for a Hyundai Sonata lost in the Kalamazoo River since Saturday has been suspended for now.
The Civil Air Patrol will be doing flyovers as weather permits over the next two days to try to spot the vehicle from the air. They are also asking people who live along the river to watch for the vehicle, which may be forced up on a bank or breifly surface in the churning water.
They say, given the swift current, they have no idea how far it might have traveled in the last five days.
Tuesday, a boat owned by Emmett Township Police was used to carry a crew from Kalamazoo County. Using sonar equipment, they did a sweep of a five mile stretch of the river, but they didn’t find the vehicle.
The search will resume when its deemed safe to go back on the river.
