LANSING (WKZO-AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Schools Supt. Michael Rice testified to the State Senate Education Committee on Tuesday that they will be negotiating with the State Superintendent of Schools on a “partnership” to avoid the closure of Woodward School for Technology and Research and Washington Writers’ Academy.
A partnership agreement will begin an 18 month long period to implement the plan and show progress. Rice gave no indication however that the district had any intention of dropping their lawsuit against the School Reform Office.
He gave the panel about an hour’s worth of advice about how to improve education in the state of Michigan.
He primarily emphasized that districts with schools in poorer neighborhoods need more revenue, because those children need more attention.
