BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek Police may have to put a search for a missing car on hold or expand it.
Police say the SUV that disappeared into the Kalamazoo River early Saturday may belong to a 31-year-old Detroit man, Cortez Lewis, who was reported missing by his Battle Creek girlfriend.
His cell phone was in that area at the time.
Search officials now no longer believe the Hyundai Sonata has sunk to the bottom at the convergence of the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek Rivers.
They put cameras into the water on Monday off Hamblin Avenue but could not find it.
Kalamazoo County plans to search down river with a sonar system, and Emmett Township will put their boat in the water and search another part of the river.
The search will apparently continue as long as the weather cooperates.
