KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Abigail Kopf, the youngest survivor of the shooting rampage that left six dead in the Kalamazoo area last February, made her first public appearance in a while, dropping the ceremonial puck before a crowd of about 3,700 at the Kalamazoo Wings game Sunday night.
It was the second annual “We Are Kalamazoo” fundraiser by the hockey team.
Kopf was one of only two survivors of the shooting. She is still recovering from surgery to have a plate installed to cover the gap left in her skull by the bullet, but she has had the stiches removed.
At the request of the families, Laurie Smith said the event not only honored them, but the first responders and the community. Money from fundraising efforts went to the Kalamazoo Strong Foundation.
The K-Wings scored early and often, beating the Adirondack Thunder 6-3 on Sunday.
