KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation has major plans for a four-mile stretch of West Main Street in Kalamazoo this spring.
Crews are expecting to get underway with a $2.3 million improvement project for the major thoroughfare in April.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa said work on the rutted and pothole-marred road will extend from U.S. 131 to Kalamazoo’s downtown area. Work is also planned on Kalamazoo Avenue downtown.
“We’re also going to have some railroad crossing replacements,” Schirripa said. “Westnedge and North Park Street and West Michigan and Stadium.”
The work will require closures and detours.
“It’ll be a moving lane closure situation,” Schirripa said. “You can plan a five-minute delay if you’re somewhere within that artery during construction.”
The project be done by November, Schirripa said.
