KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — A suspect in an armed carjacking is in custody after a chase across Kalamazoo’s north side early Sunday morning.
Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to a report of a carjacking at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of West Kalamazoo Avenue in the Stuart Neighborhood. A description of the vehicle was then given to local police agencies.
About four-and-a-half hours later, a KDPS sergeant spotted the car headed east on Paterson Street and attempted to pull it over, but the driver fled.
The officer broke off the chase when the suspect began driving against traffic. Soon after he ended the pursuit, the suspect slowed down and jumped out of the stolen car and fled on foot. He was arrested soon after.
There were no injuries during the carjacking or the pursuit.
The 20-year-old male was booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail for possession of a stolen car, fleeing and eluding and resisting, and additional charges may be added by the prosecutor.
