ORIGINAL STORY:
COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM/FM) — A woman is dead and her teenaged son critically injured after her SUV was struck in the driver’s side door by a CSX freight train in Columbia Township before 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The 48-year-old woman from Grand Junction was dead at the scene.
The 14-year-old survivor is being treated for multiple injuries, including a broken pelvis at Bronson Methodist’s pediatric trauma facility.
Sheriff’s Deputies say it appears the woman did not stop to see if the train was coming at the crossing at 16th Street near Breedsville.
The crossing has no lights or gates, just a yield sign. It remains under investigation.
