KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Probation Enhancement Program will hold a grand opening celebration Friday for a special eatery and coffee shop near downtown Kalamazoo.
Probationers and parolees will be hired on as kitchen workers and baristas at the Walnut and Park Coffee Shop.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller said as many as 20 could be employed there.
“We’re hoping they come in, they’re trained, they get a little bit of resume help, then they move on to a career someplace else,” Fuller said.
A soft opening was held earlier this week.
The location will serve Water Street Coffee, baked goods, fruit, yogurt and grab-and-go breakfast and lunch items.
They also promise plenty of parking and, at a later date, catering.
