KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — The day after Paczki Day signals the start of big business for a Kalamazoo and Battle Creek-area donut institution.
It’s not quite in the Lenten spirit, but Sweetwater’s Donut Mill president Greg Garner said paczki is the gateway pastry that gets new year’s dieters hooked on donuts again.
“It’s kind of a nice reset that kind of gets people back into their old habits,” Garner said. “Right after Fat Tuesday, it kind of gets back to our normal.”
It’s too early to tell, but Garner’s expecting strong paczki sales numbers across this three stores.
“Because of the demand, each location is probably doing between 10,000 and 12,000 of them,” Garner said.
From here on out, he’s expecting strong sales of standard donuts until the end of the year, when people resolve to lose all that weight again.
