LANSING (WKZO-AM) — A new report from the Michigan People’s Campaign claims the repeal of the Affordable Care Act would eliminate healthcare for around 887,000 people in Michigan.
The group is urging members of Congress, instead of repealing the law, to support an Obamacare expansion and the passage of new measures to reduce drug prices and rein in profiteering.
Congressman Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, said replacement discussions have just begun.
“The Health and Human Services secretary was just confirmed last week,” Upton said. “We’ve got a new congress and a number of hearings so far.”
This is the same group that sent Valentines to Upton’s office highlighting the positives of the current healthcare law.
Upton isn’t a fan of the ACA, but does support a popular provision of the law that lets parents keep children on their insurance until their 26. He also supports the provision that disallows insurers from using preexisting conditions to deny coverage.
