KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is lobbying in favor of a House bill that he says will protect jailers.
If signed into law, the legislation would make it a felony for a detainee or inmate to expose corrections officers to bodily fluids or human waste.
“It’s an intentional exposure, when somebody will do something intentionally inside a cell to expose an officer,” Fuller said.
He endorsed the legislation during a presentation to the House Committee on Law and Justice on Tuesday.
“It is something that most of that board was in favor of,” Fuller said. “There was some opposition, but, overall, it looked like most of that board understood what we were trying to explain.”
The bill is sponsored by Rep. Brandt Iden, R-Oshtemo.
