BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — A woman who nearly ran over one officer and allegedly hit a police van fleeing from a motel parking lot is in custody this morning in Battle Creek.
Police were dispatched to a report of an assault at The Hometown Inn on Division at 8:21 a.m. Sunday and spotted the 22-year-old female suspect getting into a car with a two-year-old child.
The suspect refused to get out and began to drive away with the unrestrained child in the passenger seat. Sgt. Chad Fickle says they were able to break out a rear window trying to get her to stop, and he was able to open the driver’s side door. That’s when he claims she put the car into reverse with him standing between the car and the open door.
Fickle says he managed to get out of the way without injury. The women then fled south on M-66 with Michigan State Police joining the chase. It ended near Intersate 94.
She was arrested and the child turned over to other family members.
