LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The Secretary of State’s election bureau is calling for local clerks to do a better job of training poll workers after the post November partial recount revealed just how sloppy a job some workers are doing.
The audit revealed that it was mostly human error that resulted in 23% of the Precincts in Detroit being excluded from the recount, because the numbers on the outside of the box didn’t match the ballots inside the box.
And it wasn’t just a Detroit problem. 27% of the precincts in Branch and 24% in Cass County could not be recounted because of technical errors.
The audit also turned up the names of 31 voters who not only voted absentee, but also showed up at the polls to vote. Their names have been turned over to the Attorney General for investigation and possible charges. It’s a felony to vote more than once.
They should have also been caught by election workers before they voted.
While the audit turned up a lot of technical problems, they say the 31 who voted twice hardly constitute the kind of widespread voter fraud or tampering alleged by President Trump.
