VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — It was 29 years ago that Charles Miller was shot to death and buried in a shallow grave near a marijuana plantation in Van Buren County. They are still sorting out responsibility for the crime.
Miller was killed because the others thought he was stealing from them.
Two of the men involved, Junior “Fred” Blackston, who was the alleged triggerman and Dean Lamp have already been convicted, but it’s taken decades of conflicting claims and allegations and tedious investigation to put them behind bars.
Now the third man who allegedly participated in that crime, Guy Simpson is on trial. Simpson is representing himself.
Blackston testified against Simpson this week, telling the jury that they conspired to lure Miller to a shallow grave they had already dug by telling him they were going to raid the marijuana field.
Blackston testified that Lamp and Simpson grabbed Miller after he was shot, and dumped his body in the grave. All three then filled in the hole.
Lamp is expected to testify Friday.
