KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Commissioners are pledging to work harder to reach consensus on issues and to get away from partisan politics after a tough month of growing tension and increased criticism from the community over the politics played to pick the board leadership.
Democrat Stephanie Moore has taken the most criticism for cutting a deal to hand the Chairmanship to Republican Dale Shugars, when voters chose a Democratic Majority.
She blamed other democrats for her decision, saying they could not agree on a single candidate for Board Chair.
Yesterday Commissioner Scott McGraw withdrew his proposal to require a supermajority for some proposals, after it became the latest flashpoint between board members.
Moore says it’s been a toxic environment and only time will tell whether their pledges to work together are real.
