GALESBURG (WKZO-AM) — Representatives with Boy Scout Troop 265 in Galesburg have filed a report with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office after somebody stole their equipment trailer earlier this week.
It was taken from Scoutmaster Ralph Guitar’s driveway on Tuesday.
“My wife left for work at 8:30 a.m. and it was there,” Guitar said. “When I came home at 3:30 p.m., it was gone.”
It had $9,500 worth of gear inside, including two-dozen tents purchased after a recent fundraiser.
“Small backpacking stoves, tents, sleeping bags — everything you would need on a campout,” Guitar said.
The trailer itself has been valued between $9,000 and $10,000, Guitar said.
Guitar also said there’s a rush to find the trailer or buy replacement items.
“We have one campout planned for the middle of February and we have one campout planned for March,” Guitar said. “Without the equipment, it would be very difficult to get those boys outside.”
Guitar said those with additional information about the heist are urged to contact the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office at (269) 383-8821.
Those interested in donating to the troop are urged to call Guitar at (616) 813-9248 or send him an email.
