KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Western Michigan University has unveiled online tools and resources that aim to keep students safe from threats near the school’s campus.
A Twitter account will send out public safety advisories when incidents occur near campus or in off-campus communities, and a new website contains links to university and community services.
The school has also purchased computer software that will scrub social media accounts and alert campus police when there’s an issue outside of the department’s jurisdiction that could affect students, faculty or staff.
The enhancements were recommended committee appointed by President John Dunn after students after students said they were concerned about the lack of information they received during last February’s shooting rampage through Kalamazoo that left six dead.
