KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A shooting on Kalamazoo’s north side is being called unintentional and accidental, but it could mean jail time for the triggerman anyway.
Public Safety responded to a 911 call at about 3 p.m. to a home in the 300 block of Phelps Street to investigate a reported shooting.
They found a woman who had been shot in the leg. She told officers that during horseplay with a male acquaintance the gun went off by accident.
The wound was non-life threatening and she is being treated at Bronson.
Lt. Michael Kelley says there are just two problems. The male involved is a felon and it’s a crime for him to have a gun, and it turned out that the gun had been stolen in Grand Rapids.
The male was arrested and taken to jail, and now faces two brand new felonies.
