KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM)– There is bad news for motorists in Kalamazoo County. Joanne Johnson, The Director of the County Road Commission, said there will be more potholes in our future. But it’s gravel roads that really worry her.
She said they can become impassible in weather like this. She says she can toss some cold patch into a pothole, and throw salt on icy roads, but there is nothing she can do to fix a gravel road until spring, they are just too saturated with water.
Johnson said heavy equipment will just sink in creating deeper ruts that could be dangerous, especially if they froze into the surface.
She says the warm spell could also be a one-two punch to paved roads this year, creating not one but two “pothole seasons” this year.
Her best advice is to slow down and let road officials know where you see potholes, so they can address them before they get out of hand.
