KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Commissioners will get to work at Kalamazoo City Hall on Monday night, trying to figure out how to allocate $10 million to make the town a better place to live.
The money comes from the Foundation for Excellence. The city commission has set aside that amount for “aspirational spending.” There are eight generalized goal areas and then there are subdivisions in each of those.
The aim is to make the town better for everyone by providing youth opportunities, better amenities and working to reduce poverty.
Manager Jim Ritsema said commissioners were given a survey of how they would divide the money, and they will go through an exercise tonight to set priorities for later discussion. On-going community meetings are being held to get citizen input through the Imagine Kalamazoo 2025 project.
Tonight’s work session begins at 6 p.m.
