DETROIT (WKZO-AM) –It’s been a mind-bending week for the Auto Industry. While they have been putting their best foot forward at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, they have been getting dunned for a variety of shortcomings.
Ford is recalling 800,000 vehicles for faulty air bags, VW agreed to pay a $4.3-billion fine for the Diesel Emissions scandal and Fiat Chrysler was charged with the same deception.
Just yesterday Takata was slapped with penalties for those faulty airbags.
U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade says Takata tried to cover it up, despite knowing their product was dangerous. That’s why they are being indicted on a criminal charge and ordered to pay a billion dollar fine.
It was no doubt a big topic of conversation at Friday night’s Charity Preveiw Event at Cobo Arena.
The North American International Auto Show opens to the public this weekend and will continue through Sunday January 22nd at Cobo Center in Detroit.
In addition to dozens of new concept and production vehicles, visitors can also see the “AutoMobili-D” display which showcases the latest technologies being used in the auto industry.
It also focuses on the future of transportation including self-driving vehicles.
The rest of the show continues the event’s main purpose, to feature the vehicles we will still be driving until then. Those vehicles may include some of the safety technology of the self-driving vehicles of the future but will still rely on a human to point them in the right direction and hit the gas and brakes.
