KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — It now looks like it maybe sometime this coming week before residents of the Crosstown Senior Community housing project will be allowed to move back into the building. It has been closed since a fire that killed one tenant a week ago.
There had been a hope by management that parts of the building might be inhabitable by late this week but the city inspectors won’t be back until next week.
Crews have been drying out carpets and cleaning up that portion of the structure that was damaged when a fire broke out in a 7th story apartment.
Most of the 170 tenants that were evacuated are living with relatives or friends. A few are still being put up by the Red Cross.
